New ad serving features: Day Part Targeting and more

We’ve recently enhanced our core ad serving capabilities with a few new features to give you more flexibility and control over when ads are shown and their duration for all your line items – from guaranteed campaigns to MoPub Marketplace line items. We’re constantly striving to improve our platform and publisher input is a major driver of these enhancements, so keep the feedback coming!


Run campaigns only during select days and times
Day Part Targeting enables you to limit when your campaign runs to specific times and days of the week. For many publishers, this is often used for certain guaranteed line items when they are working directly with an advertiser or agency on a time-sensitive campaign. But on MoPub, you can also use this feature on your promotional campaigns or any other line items. Most importantly, the ad shows based on the end user’s local time, no matter where they are or when they use your app.

For example, if you wanted to promote another one of your apps for quick morning exercises, you may only want to run these ads from 9 – 11 a.m. on weekdays. If you then decide that you want to extend this campaign to another time period, such as 6 – 8 a.m., you have the flexibility to add a second time period during which your users will see these ads. Your users will see more relevant ads and the performance for these campaigns should also be better.

Customize how long a user sees a banner for certain campaigns

Refresh_Rate-Large We’ve also added the ability for you to control the refresh rates for certain line items separate from the ad unit with Line Item Refresh Rates.

This feature enables you to show certain banner ads for longer or shorter than your usual ad unit settings, and is particularly useful for promotional ads for your other apps or guaranteed campaigns you may be running with direct advertisers.

For example, if you have a guaranteed campaign for an upcoming movie, the advertiser may want you to show a banner ad for longer than your current refresh rate for that ad unit to drive better performance and exposure.  If your targeted ad unit is normally set to a sixty second refresh rate (the refresh rate MoPub generally recommends ), you now have the flexibility to set this specific ad campaign to any interval, such as ninety seconds, in order to optimize your performance.
