We’ve increasingly heard from publishers, both big and small, about the importance of displaying different ads to different segments of users. Specifically, they want the ability to cross-promote their apps with more ease and sophistication.

Our newly launched user targeting feature lets you easily specify segments of users that will (or will not) be shown an ad for each campaign. This feature is especially useful for promotional install campaigns where you may want to exclude users that already have certain apps installed. User targeting is also an easy way to draw inactive users back to an app they have already installed or to show third party ads that monetized more effectively for users that already use your app.

For example, if you would like to drive installs for the “Tic-tac-toe” application with a promotional campaign for users that do not currently have “Tic-tac-toe” installed, you would do the following:

1. Select “Target users that don’t have these apps”
2. Enter “Tic-tac-toe” in the field directly below
3. Select “Continue” to save your inputs
Note: In order for you to target app installs, your applications need to have conversion tracking enabled and have the correct iTunes URL or Android package name set. This lets the MoPub system know which applications a user has installed. You can learn more in our help center about about enabling conversion tracking and setting up custom URLs , or contact your MoPub account manager.
Here’s a visual example of the user targeting feature:
