We’ve been hearing quite a bit today about some “mass deactivations” of publishers and advertisers by AdMob. Understandably, there are quite a few angry blog posts and tweets:

I don’t want to be too unfair to the folks at Google/AdMob. When I worked with the AdSense teams at Google there were lots of untoward publishers doing a variety of shady things to manipulate and game the AdSense program. It’s a tough job.

That said though, many publishers that we work with depend on the income stream from AdMob, so the risk of being disabled is quite real. One of the main reasons that we started MoPub was to help publishers survive problems like this… imagine if you had an app that was out in the wild with thousands of active users and all of sudden your monetization strategy broke? That’s a pretty big impact. MoPub is designed to give you control so you can handle these type of problems in real time and switch ad networks if you need to.

If you’ve been disabled by AdMob or if you want to learn more about how to survive problems like this, please get in touch with us. We’d love to help.
